Visual context for SUPERBOOTH and SOOPERgrail 2022.
As mixing and mastering engineers at SM Mastering Audio Articles, we are constantly tracking how hardware innovations shape modern music production. When looking back at major industry convergence points, the twin exhibition of superbooth and soopergrail 2022 stands out as a landmark event that successfully bridged the gap between electronic sound generation and boutique lutherie. Held at the expansive FEZ-Berlin, this gathering provided audio professionals, sound designers, and instrument builders with a unique playground to explore tactile interfaces and acoustic resonance.
Hardware Innovation at superbooth and soopergrail 2022
The synergy between electronic synthesis and physical string instruments was palpable throughout the venue. For mixing professionals, understanding how these hardware instruments translate from the tracking stage to the final master is crucial. Many producers attending superbooth and soopergrail 2022 were eager to test modular synthesizers and analog processors that could seamlessly integrate into hybrid mixing chains. Whether you are using precision tools like those found in the iZotope mixing suite or hardware limiters, capturing a pure signal at the source remains paramount.
Furthermore, the unique format of superbooth and soopergrail 2022 allowed engineers to hear how bespoke electric guitars and modular systems interact in a live acoustic space. This cross-pollination of ideas directly influences how we approach tone shaping, transient response, and stereo imaging during our daily mastering sessions.

Practical Studio Workflow Tips Inspired by the Event
Drawing inspiration from the innovations presented at superbooth and soopergrail 2022, here are several actionable workflow tips to elevate your studio productions:
- Embrace Hybrid Signal Flow: Route your software synths through hardware filters and boutique guitar pedals to add organic warmth and unpredictable harmonic textures before hitting your DAW.
- Manage Dynamic Range Early: When tracking high-resonance modular patches or aggressive guitar cabs, apply gentle peak control during tracking to prevent digital clipping and preserve headroom for the mastering stage.
- Utilize Mid-Side Processing: Electronic soundscapes often feature wide, stereo-heavy elements. Use M/S EQ techniques to clean up the low-end center while letting synthetic stereo effects bloom in the sides.
Conclusion
The convergence of electronic synthesis and custom guitar craftsmanship made the event a defining moment for modern audio creators. By understanding the gear and workflows born from such gatherings, engineers can better prepare their mixes for transparent, punchy, and commercially competitive masters.
